Queensland + WA Grants for first home buyers to fall by $5,000 on 1 July 2017

FHBA Weekend Preview: 27 – 28 May 2017

IMPORTANT – 15 June 2017 – Since this Weekend Preview post in May the Queensland government has announced that the Queensland First Home Owners Grant (FHOG) will remain at $20,000 until 31 December 2017. You can learn more about this announcement by this government in FHBA News.

In Queensland and Western Australia property experts are reporting that first home buyers are rushing to buy their first home before 30 June 2017. On 1 July 2017 government first home buyer help will decrease in these two states:

  • Queensland – The Queensland First Home Owners Grant (FHOG) will decrease from $20,000 to $15,000 on 1 July 2017;
  • Western Australia – The WA FHOG boost of $5,000 will end on 30 June 2017, meaning the effective FHOG payment will decrease from $15,000 to $10,000 on 1 July 2017.

First Home Buyers Australia (FHBA) is disappointed by the scaling back of the assistance for first home buyers in these states. If you would like to take advantage of the higher FHOG amounts then you should get in touch with an FHBA Coach who can help you explore your options. You can arrange for an FHBA Coach to contact you here.

Yesterday, we launched brand new financial help for first home buyers across Australia that FHOG eligible first home buyers can use in addition to the FHOG and other government incentives (e.g. stamp duty concessions) in their state. This new financial help is called the FHBA 50 Rebate and it could put thousands back into your pockets when you purchase a brand new home with the help of an FHBA Coach. House hunt with confidence!

Planning on going house hunting soon but don’t know whether a bank will lend you enough funds to buy your first home yet?

You should get a no obligation home loan pre-approval! A loan pre-approval provides you written guidance of how much a particular bank is willing to lend to you. A loan pre-approval comes with no obligations to proceed, leaving you in control and importantly, attending open homes knowing what your borrowing capacity and budget is.
