On January 1 2017 the First Home Owners Grant (FHOG) changed in some states. Some changes were for the better, some for the worse. And some states had no changes at all. Today we summarise each state’s current FHOG status, ranking the state’s from lowest amount of help, to most amount of help.
ACT FHOG (lowest amount of government help)
- Current FHOG amount: $7,000 (on 1 January 2017 the ACT FHOG decreased from $10,000 to $7,000. It is available on new homes only.)
- Stamp Duty concessions available: Yes (new homes only)

NSW FHOG
- Current FHOG amount: $10,000 (new homes only)
- Stamp Duty concessions available: Yes (new homes only)
- Eligibility criteria: NSW FHOG Guide
Victoria FHOG
- Current FHOG amount: $10,000 (new homes only)
- Stamp duty concessions available: Yes (new & established homes)
- Eligibility criteria: Victoria FHOG Guide
South Australia FHOG
- Current FHOG amount: $15,000 (new homes only)
- Stamp duty concessions available: Yes (off-the-plan homes only)
- Eligibility criteria: South Australia FHOG Guide
Western Australia FHOG
- Current FHOG amount: $15,000 (on January 1 2017 the WA FHOG increased from $10,000 to $15,000. It is available on new homes only.)
- Stamp Duty concessions available: Yes (new & established homes)

Tasmania FHOG
- Current FHOG amount: $20,000 (new homes only)
- Stamp Duty concessions available: No
- Eligibility criteria: Tasmania FHOG Guide
Queensland FHOG
- Current FHOG amount: $20,000 (new homes only)
- Stamp Duty concessions available: Yes (new & established homes)
- Eligibility criteria: Queensland FHOG Guide
Northern Territory FHOG (highest amount of government help)
- Current FHOG amount: $26,000 (new homes only)
- Stamp Duty concessions available: Yes (new & established homes)
