An old tradition in New York City (NYC), that lasted until after World War II and dated as far back as colonial days was something called "Moving Day".

This day fell on May 1, every year and all rental agreements would end on this day, at 9am, resulting in thousands of NYC residents moving house on the same day.

Thankfully you won't have to deal that sort of bottleneck when you move in your new home.

What you will need to manage, whether you are moving locally or interstate, is finding a removalist that services your location and will provides you with a sense of security that all of your belongings will arrive to your new home safe and secure.

Once you've locked in your date, you'll want to provide as much lead time as possible. A minimum of four to six weeks is suggested.

When selecting a removalist, a few things to consider are: level of experience and how long they have ben in business, what sort of reviews they have, what payment options are available, what sort of vehicles they use, customer service and their insurance coverage/options.

Moving companies should have their own insurance policies called "Transit and Public Liability Insurance". We recommend that you inquire about what their policy covers and then consider your own policy to fill in any possible gaps.

We also recommend creating an inventory list, which may be compulsory for some removalist and will certainly help in any insurance related claims.

Now that you have a better idea of what's involved in creating the perfect moving day, all that's left is choosing the right removalist.
